Arm lift

Cosmetic surgery of the arms

To improve the appearance of the arms, one can either perform liposuction alone when the arm is fatty with elastic skin, or remove a spindle of skin when the excess skin is loose, or combine the two. The main problem lies in the scar of the lift, which takes time to fade. Of course, with liposuction alone, the scars are minimal.

See the SOFCPRE information sheet on the inner arm lift (in French) >>

Sagging, or ptosis, of the inner arms often occurs. Liposuction can be effective in some cases of excess fat, but most often it is mainly excess skin that needs to be removed.

The only current means is a spindle-shaped excision, leaving a scar running from the armpit to the elbow. The quality of this scar is unpredictable, and this operation can only be considered if the problem is significant, with a very large excess of skin.

A middle ground may exist between the two previous options, namely the combination of moderate liposuction of the arm with a mini lift, with a scar hidden in the hair-bearing area of the armpit, which it partly reduces. While the principle of this combination is attractive, the tightening effect is limited to the upper third of the arm, and cannot replace the full lift when the excess skin is significant.

Liposuction of the arms is also possible.

If liposuction alone is performed, it will most often be an outpatient procedure with 3 or 4 tiny scars. A compression garment must then be worn on both arms for 2 or 3 weeks. Pain is moderate.

The result of this liposuction, like any liposuction, can only be appreciated after 3 months, once the swelling and bruising have resolved (1 month) and skin retraction has taken place (2 to 3 months). The quality of the result obviously depends on the elasticity of the skin, and if this is insufficient, a lift with a long scar on the back of the arm is fairly simple to perform, but produces an unpredictable scar that is visible from behind.

The hospital stay is either outpatient or one night if small drains are essential. A compression garment is also necessary, since liposuction is in fact always combined with the lift. Recovery involves little pain.

You can shower from the next day. Everyday use of the arms can be resumed fairly quickly, as pain is generally moderate. The compression garment must be kept on for 3 weeks, 20 hours a day. The result can generally be appreciated after 3 months.

The scars must be protected with long sleeves for 6 months after the operation.
